SIR champions the important role interventional radiology plays in today’s medical environment, demonstrating how image-guided therapies are reshaping the practice of medicine. Research presentations at SIR 2016 are the most important way to speed discovery and disseminate innovation in interventional radiology. You should be an integral part of this effort.
Each year, thousands come to the society’s Annual Scientific Meeting, the annual showcase of investigators from around the world presenting cutting-edge research on the latest advances and evolutions in patient care using image-guided therapies. It is the place for practicing experts, early career professionals, research scientists, clinical associates, residents and medical students to submit scientific abstracts for oral or poster presentation.
SIR is now accepting scientific abstracts in all areas of vascular and nonvascular interventional radiology. The world’s leading interventional radiology professionals will be at SIR 2016, the specialty’s most comprehensive meeting. I encourage you to share your original research in Vancouver. You could not ask for a better venue to present your research, showcasing your knowledge and dedication to discovery in front of a prestigious global audience.
Benefits of abstract acceptance include
Advancing image-guided interventions: You have the opportunity to share your experience, define good practice or describe bench-top research findings with other experts in the field. Your work may revolutionize patient care. Presenting at SIR gives your work credibility and puts your research up for discussion in front of industry experts and internationally renowned faculty.
Getting published: All selected scientific abstracts are published in SIR’s flagship publication, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, and on its website, and will be citable references. Members of the Annual Scientific Committee and JVIR’s editorial board strongly encourage you to submit your full manuscript for publication in JVIR. JVIR recently increased its impact factor by 12 percent. Selected abstracts may be designated as Distinguished, Featured or Abstract of the Year.
Raising awareness: Selected abstracts are promoted to the health and science media in top markets. Recently, consumer media outlets like Fox Health News, HealthDay, New York Daily News and radiology trade press covered news from the annual meeting, reaching 139 million readers, viewers and listeners.
Receiving visibility and feedback: Global experts in product development, interventional radiology research and clinical care will see your work; dedicated discussion times create opportunities for helpful interaction with attendees. Get expert feedback on your current research and new ideas to mold your future projects—all while discovering the latest research results and advances across the spectrum of interventional radiology.
Finding support: A limited number of research awards to support travel are available through SIR Foundation for medical students, residents and fellows whose abstracts have been accepted for oral presentation at SIR 2016. SIR’s International Scholarship program enables physicians (who are within 10 years of completion of training and who are practicing outside North America) an opportunity to train and learn at the meeting. SIR also offers two SIR 2016 scholarships for IRs-in-training: the SIR Medical Student Scholarship and SIR Resident-in-Training Scholarship.
All investigators are invited to submit abstracts of original work to be considered for presentation at SIR’s Annual Scientific Meeting by Oct. 6. Authors do not need to be SIR members to participate.
For more than 40 years, the SIR Annual Scientific Meeting has been the preeminent place for formal and informal scientific exchange among vascular and interventional radiologists. Let’s continue to drive research and outcomes data: What discovery are you going to be sharing at SIR 2016?
